Most furniture arrives unassembled, in boxes, with instructions and fittings. These tips will help you assemble it safely.
Before you start
- Open all the boxes and check the parts and fittings against the list in the instructions. An order with several parcels may arrive on different days — wait for the last one before you start.
- Work on a large, protected surface (the cardboard from the packaging will do), so as not to scratch the parts or the floor.
- Keep a screwdriver and an Allen key (often included) to hand.
During assembly
- Follow the order of the instructions and only fully tighten all the screws at the end, once the structure is aligned.
- Large or heavy parts should be assembled by two people.
- Keep the packaging until you have confirmed that everything is in order.
Wall fixing
Bookcases, chests of drawers and tall furniture may come with a wall-fixing kit. Always use it, especially in homes with children.
