Not water/rain proof for outside use!

If you use this in a covered coop where it does not rain, then it will work. It is NOT good for outside because the rain will just run down the front and under the lid and into the opening of the food bin mouth. I bought this newer bigger model because I bought the older model which works great and I wanted a bigger one that held more food. It is a one star because it has a design flaw for outside use. Get the older model which is still available if you want it for outside use.

Working perfect!The chickens quickly learned to use this. It works very well. The magpies have also learned and are eating the chickens' food ;-) I bought another feeder like this.

The chicken feeder is surprisingly good. Easy to assemble with all tools provided. The chooks learned how to use it within a day! And it's still working flawlessly a few weeks later. I'd say worth the money.

If You Have Rats, Buy This Feeder

If you have a rat problem, this feeder is a great bargain. It has done an excellent job of keeping my chicken feed away from rats. Its made of steel, so rats will not be able to chew through it. It will also protect the feed from rain. Are chickens afraid of it at first? Yes, but they can be trained. The easiest method is to prop the lid open and let them eat from it for a few days. Then, tape or glue a few mealworms to the lid. When they peck at the worms, the lid opens, and they quickly learn how it works. Mine figured it out within a few days. One minor complaint is that a few of the metal edges are a little sharp. I covered those spots with duct tape, and that solved the problem. Considering the price and how well it keeps feed away from rats, its an amazing find!

Great feeder for the price

I was looking for a chicken feeder. We previously bought the screwable ones made of plastic that you can install on a pail. There was a lot of waste on the ground. With this one, we thought it couldn’t be worse, but it ended up being way better than we thought. The food dispenser is well made and the grains it don’t get stuck in the middle of it where the birds can’t reach. Not the highest quality on the market, but for the price, it remains a way better option than using a pail. I would recommend it.

Set it up and the feeding ports are at the perfect height. No bending for them, no wasted feed from awkward angles.

25 lb feeder

Received this feeder today, I planned to use it while I am away on vacation as it said it has a 25 lb capacity. I also bought one that said 40Lb capacity. There is no way it will hold 25 lbs of chicken feed.

The handle makes it easy to move

I move it around depending on where the flock is. Handles on both sides make it super easy to pick up and relocate.

The product is good, product is great. The only enhancement I would recommend is adding sealant to the seems before putting the box together. Not a negative on the product but water will naturally seep in if it’s outside in the elements.

Great for bantams too

I've got smaller bantams and they fit right in. The port size is perfect for their little heads.

Work Good

I bought 2 feeders, 1 for the layer pellets, and 1 for the scratch. I left them open for a week so the chickens could learn how to use them. The chickens are useing them without any issues. For 13 chickens the feed lasts almost 2 weeks.

Terrific Feeder

This feeder works terrific after we secured down the section to stop the chickens from flinging food. It was a little too short it kept dropping. This feeder has saved so much food from being wasted.

Wouldn’t do it again

Maybe it’s just my flock but they were too rough for this. The side pieces bent down a few times which wasn’t a big deal to fix. The real problem came when I came out to find the feeder bin full of blood. I believe that one chicken jumped on the feeder lid while another was eating and caused it to shut on the chicken. Whatever happened, it hurt at least one bird and they were not wanting to eat from it after that. I also found that it doesn’t work well in a coop using deep litter method. It’s now sitting unused and I’m wishing I would have stuck with the old system.

I have been using this feeder a few weeks. It doesn't take 25lb of feed maybe 15lbs. Most of the chickens use it but it took a while for them to figure it out. The ducks don't use it at all which is a pity. I have to put out feed in the old feeder for them. If that changes I will edit this

NOT rainproof.

The design would be water proof if there was a lip around the feed opening, but there isn't. So when rain travels down the front it goes right under the lifting lid and into the grain bin. The original design my Grandpa's Feeders has this lip and is actually weather proof. Your design, which is def cheaper and comparable, lacks several of those feeders features. So while I like product it needs to be in a protected location. Its NOT rainproof.

This chicken feeder is better priced here at the brand than other places - buy here. It has a learner stage to help them figure out it out and they only needed it for two days. The metal is strong and sturdy but surprisingly light to pick up even full of food. Easy to put together with good directions. I sent the link to two other people I know to buy this product I highly recommend it. Saves feed from them throwing it around and NO more sharing with other critter! Buy it now don’t waiit

Its good but not without flaws. 1st its marketed to be twice the size that it actually is. Saying it holds 25 lbs of feed, while it really only holds about 13 lbs of feed. The pedal is too slick and the chickens slide right off. And last the lid gets stuck open. I had to drill holes and install springs to close the lid. Its better than most, but it has issues.

Smaller than I expected but does the job. Disappointed that I can't find holes for the screws that need to be inserted for training purposes but looks like my chickens are teaching each other. Also kind of sluggish closing at times, like it want to stick in an open position. Only gave a lower rating because of these factors but I'm satisfied with it, especially because it's much less expensive than the original.

All galvanized, the chickens were curious would step on the bottom lift, scare them when the food appeared. but by 2 hours they were enjoying it and knew what to do. keeps out rain, mice and small birds. wanted one and now I don't have to feed them every day, makes life easy!!!!

Needs alittle work

Works great had to adapt it a little. Lid would get stuck open. Soni used the training bolts to make stopper. Also had to add weights to counter diet on the step.

Really like this feeder. It seems like good material and came with just the lever to connect. Filled it up over 2 weeks ago and our four chickens haven't emptied it yet. It keeps the food in the feeder, keeps it dry with very little mess and no sign of rodents around it at night. It comes with two open settings to get the chickens used to it but It took the chickens less than a week to figure it out.

Does a great job at keeping feeder from our forest friends, the only complaint is i set it on a slope with the foot peddle on the downward side and the chickens stepped on it and hyperextended the lid over the top making it remain open, it need to sit on level ground to work properly.

I have not opened the box or package yet but, based on other people reviews and the videos I seen it looks like I'm going to like it. The only thing is that is a little bit pricey.

Not as durable as the other more expensive brand but it works just the same and for the cost savings, I would buy it again, however, my biggest complaint is its size. This is too small for large fowl chickens and better suited for bantam breeds.

Great feeder with one exception

Have two of these, they work well. Much less expensive than Grandpa, same quality. But the magnet that is supposed to hold the top fill plate down is not strong enough. Please fix on new design!

Good for the money

This is my 2nd purchased, after rec'd a Christmas gift last year from my daughter is a USA make version I bought 1 last year from the brand and now my flock getting laager so I buy another, overall it serve what is design for and cost much less than the USA make version, I only wish the door a little heavier so it close all the time

Great Feeder!!

Bought this to help keep the rats out. It works well! However, it does not keep the chipmunks out. (I keep mine outside) I still love it and feel it was worth the price.

Works as it should but......

Works like it should. Took some time to get the chickens to use it properly. I am happy with it and hope the rats dont learn how to use it. Doesn't hold as much food as the description said it did, but it does hold a decent amount for five chickens. If I had more chickens I definitely would of needed another one to not to have to fill it more often.

I love that the top has a magnetic closure. I don’t feel like it pushes the feed down nearly as well as the big name brand one. Not sure if it due to the design of the slope. But it is a good product

Chickens like it!!! Fun for them to step on and self serve dispenser! Keeps feed dry in rain and windy conditions, well designed features with gravity lid closure. If I had additional chickens would seriously consider getting another.

Good Purchase

Feeder is a great solution for messy chickens. Keeps the food mostly inside and keeps everything closed when not in use to prevent rats/mice or other animals getting into the food. The chickens catch on very quickly and enjoy using them. I bought 1 initially but have recently added another one to accommodate 34 chickens. The only downfall to this unit is the lid that flips up with the pedal was getting caught on the top of the feeder so I had to take the piece off and hammer it so it didn’t get caught. I also had this problem with my second feeder so it is a manufacturing problem with the component. I wish it came without having to physically alter it but it now does the job it’s meant to do and I have recommended it to others for the price point and size.
