This thing is really close to being really good

I got this thing as my first faceting machine. I did get the Cutkit from gems of science. I am very happy with the machine overall! I think if they incorporate more of the features the cutkit does this thing would be absolutely amazing for the price! It is already very close. My only complaint really is that the angle compass is shiny chrome and it’s hard to see. A mat black finish or some other easy to see finish, some minor quality control (lap and mast alignment), and incorporating more cutkit features and this thing is a banger!

No surprises

It’s what I expected, nothing broken or out of place, I bought all the aftermarket upgrades at the time of purchase and it’s a good machine. I can’t say anything about it before the upgrades because I didn’t use it right out of the box, but I think it’s good enough to start Faceting if you want to get the upgrades later.

Brilliant Machine

This is a really brilliant machine for someone who wants to facet gems as a hobbyist. It is also easy to modify the machine to match the pro cutters' requirements. I really recommend everyone to start their hobby with this machine, and then, after purchasing this machine, to modify the machine to match the precision level needed. Really brilliant machine!

Can't beat the price but the machine has a couple of faults which could be solved very easy with minor design updates: - height adjustment locking screw clashes with the angle block making it useless without modification - vertical pole and disk not square to each other making the machine quite inaccurate. Some adjustment needed with shims or brute force (bending the pole mount location on the machine frame)

Goede machine, werkt prima. Enigste wat ze nog kunnen verbeteren is rubberen ringetjes onder de schroeven van de lekbak. Komt wat water doorheen bij veel watergebruik. Voorderest perfecte machine.

I bought this very affordable faceting machine, and I am impressed with the quality. It preformed an orthoclase feldspar in under an hour, but I have to get more laps to finish it. I am new to this hobby, and this machine makes it seem like we are off to a great start together. I hope to use it for years to come.

Great, note the plug

This is fantastic quality, all working perfectly. A couple of comments for anyone thinking of buying it - it comes with 1 lap disc, 620 grit. It comes with an EU 2-pin plug, not a UK Plug (I am in Ireland). It requires 2 sockets because there's a water pump included. The instructions don't actually include instructions on how to put the items together, but I found a video on youtube and it was very simple. The water tubing is warped from transport, but I think it will be fine. Fantastic quality and service, as always, from the brand.

Works well

Machine needs to be looked over to be level and plumb, bolts and screws should be tightened and situated to ensure proper cuts. Other than that its a good tool to start!

wobbly junk

these machines need to be "true" or they will not cut properly. this machine is wobbly, gets hot, has a high pitched squeaky sound. this company only sells crap these days.

I bought this to use as a flat lap. I do wish it would fit 8 inch lapping disks. Otherwise, it is a solid, well-built machine that is serving my purposes well.

Cette machine est vraiment très bien, par contre ne vend pas les disques, il y en a un de fourni grain 600. Si vous en voulez d'autres il faut les commander à part sur d'autres sites😒. Et pour le montage il n'y a pas vraiment d'explication cela dit ce n'est pas hyper compliqué, sauf l'axe qui tient le disque, ce n'est pas évident car l'axe tourne et il n'y a pas de prise pour le tenir le temps de boulonner le disque. Le bol devrait avoir des bord plus haut pour éviter la projection d'eau. Dans l'ensemble je suis satisfaite du produit, a voir dans le temps.

Great value

For the price this machine is amazing. However I wish the protractor was easier to see and there were more laps and stops that came with it. The mast was not great. Cutting at 90 degrees is very difficult. Otherwise it's a fantastic machine for the price.

Learning curve

Great machine for the cost. For the love of God, tighten EVERYTHING before first use. See a bolt or screw, tighten it. Think your done? Check again. Instruction manual is laughably basic. Doesn't explain or list features of use. BUT, once you figure it out, it works great. Does not come with dop transfer jig. Only has 600 grit disc. Otherwise great. Videos on YouTube are recommended to help with the learning curve.

Great for learning - requires additional parts to make usable

I purchased this machine and the cutkit1 from facet.ing and was able to learn the basics pretty quickly. The stock machine isn't able to grind girdle facets, among other issues, so I added the cutkit 1 which is sold by another company. The machine itself has some sloppiness that makes perfection difficult, but it is a solid choice for a learner on a budget.

Speed control and heat

Overall, I am mostly pleased with my purchase, but after use of the machine, the speed control seems to fail while working on a stone and the machine seems to get really hot. I have adequate airflow around the machine but the whole machine gets hot to the touch.

Voor de prijs (dit soort machine cost regelmatig duizenden euros...) en met enkele goedkope onderdelen (zoek voor gespecialiseerd groepen, website of AliExpress), is die machine uitstekend. Ik gebruik het voor alle soorten edelstenen (robijnen, saffieren, smaragden...), ook echte kleine (4mm).

Bladesmith

Works ok, but the start/stop switch is a little squirrely; you have to push it a half dozen times before it will turn on. Additionally, the water pump works ok, but it doesn't have a switch. You have to plug it in and unplug it to start and stop.

I have been a rock hound for years. The faceting machine is just what I was looking for. The price is right and machine easy to use

Pretty Good

I am using this machine to cab glass. I am enjoying it to a point. I also am using my hands to do this, not all the angled holders and such. Today, I used it for my third or fourth time. These are my issues: During set up 1. A few things were not mentioned in set up procedures and I had to source several different similar machines to see how the water spigot and pump should be set up. They were not described nor displayed. 2. The hoses wouldn’t fit well and I could not do the clamps up tight enough myself so I had to get help. 3. The plastic clamp tighteners feel flimsy **Now, a short time of use. 4. The clamping bands are not stainless so they rust into the water surrounding the pump and the pump might get ruined by this. ** 5. The water dripper handle might be great for small handed lefties (small area and weirdly angled?) but I have small hands and find it awkward. 6 I am having to adjust the water a lot. It seems to run on too slow a drip or too much. 7. The hose coming in is never fully filled but does operate. The one coming out of the machine arrived bent flat at the machine and I have had to add some gravity to assure drainage. It works.

Machine operates fantastic, I do wish the mast and protractor were a bit more robust or that an optional mast and protractor were available. Overall is a very good entry level machine.

It's good for a beginner

Hars to dial in proper settings for faceting. Wish they would offer an upgrade to a digital one or make it better. It harder to cut smaller stone girdles because it won't go low enough. A shorter shaft for the dop would be better since cutting girdle/pavilion the mast is hanging off the machine. Otherwise it's an ok machine to start off with. TurtleHoard has upgrades for it that make it a bit better.

It is a wonderful machine, does exactly what it is supposed to. The only reason I can't give it a 5 star is because there are no instructions for facing! No how to or a step by step suggestion of where to start , nothing to point a person in the right direction of if they are doing it right , not a parts manual but it needs a written step of what one should do , my opinion anyway, who knows if my opinion is legit. Now the discharge of cooling water is kinda primitive with nothing for it to go into i figured there was a resivour in the machine with pump.nope just a hose dumping onto the counter if your not paying attention, all is great otherwise.

The machine is ok, it arrived broken all the insides where all over the place so once I took it apart and put all the guts back together I turned it on and the wheel spun but I haven’t cut anything yet I have some emeralds on the way. I think I should have gotten a decent sized gift card or something for having to take apart a fix a machine I’ve never used before so I did save the company a large sum of money. And the fact I’m looking for a cadding machine I’m not comfortable buying through them because I don’t need a high priced machine showing up broken for me to fix. Great for beginners

In full transparency, I haven't set up any other faceting tools on this machine, but use it as a flat lap for stones. The pump/drip function works well, and the variable speed is handy as well. Would definitely recommend as an entry level cabbing machine at a great price.

Recreational prospector

Over all I am very pleased with this machine,easy to setup and use. My only gripe is that it only comes with 1 sanding disc which is 600 grit, maybe include a few different grits or put in the description that it only comes with a 600 grit disc. I started smoothing out some rocks and gems the same day it arrived and am pleased with the results. Shipping was very fast, got here 3 days after I placed the order.

(Hier heb ik overigens wel een compensatie voor ontvangen) Verders is het een mooi instapmodel in de wereld van de lapidarist.

very good for beginners, might need adjustment

from setup to finished cut stone took about all of a day, this is a pretty decent little machine once everything is all lubricated the issue i had was some items needed to be sanded a bit to fit, using the included 600 lap on the metal post holders to widen them helped immensely (remove the post holders, screw on the bottom, and use the 600 lap to sand the insides and reinstall helped prevent the post from camming its way out and not getting an accurate angle) also some light

Satisfied with purchase!

I wished it came with better instructions on how to use the faceting attachment. It comes with a 100 grit diamond dust which is not bad at all. You need to invest in all other grit discs though

Excellent Starting Machine for the price but has flaws

Considering the price that I paid and compared to other machines available in the market this is a deal..period. I am an early learner of faceting and this machine requires some modifications. I watched YouTube video and got some pointer. The modification that I did: - Filling the mast base to make it to perpendicular to the platform - Added a digital angle protractor to hit the angle more perfectly The major drawback of this machine is that it's not possible to cut the "griddle" of the stone if the rough is less than 12mm. To cut any size of stone, any of the following modification is needed: - The arbor needs to be extended around 1.5 inch to 2 inch OR - Remove/shave off 2 inch beneath the mast base.
