These gadgets are usually designed to catch gullible woodturners but this version actually works. Well packaged, strong construction. Easy to set up. Easy to use, acurate repeatable grind angles and shapes. Highly recommend this jig for the workshop.

A very good sharpening jig system for wood turning. Have used it for a couple of months now and I've not hand any issues with it.

Complete sharpening solution...not for free-handers

The key to successful wood turning is using sharp tools. This set, in addition to a slow rpm grinder, is the key. To be transparent, I already own a name brand sharpening jig for my turning tools. However, this jig goes beyond gouges and scrapers. It has a few additional attachments that are useful for other cutting tools in the shop, as well as other helpful items. For example, it includes some sharpening jigs if you are into exactness with the cut angles of your gouges. The multitude of parts can be overwhelming but thankfully a fairly decent user manual is available. It provides clear instructions on how to set up the fixture. As for the use of all the various platforms, jigs, setup gauges, etc. the manual does an excellent job of telling you how to use them. In addition, it does provide a lot of information about types of grinds and which method (as discussed below) works best in using the system. The system offers 3 grinding methods, actually 4 if you ignore the whole system and free-hand it as some pros can do. New sharpening system that so far is working well.

As others have mention, it does take a little time figuring everything about this system out. Setup was fine, but just learning how to sharpen with it was a bit different. However the more I get it out and use it, the better I am getting at it. The sharpener comes with what they call a tool rest bar, which helps guide you, so that you know how much to grind off while you are sharpening. That's very different than what I am use to, and working with it has been a sort of "trust the process" kind of thing. When I try and change things up and do it the way I think it should be done, I don't get the results I'm looking for, but again, that's because I'm use to a different sharpening system. When I finally just follow the guides, it works and my tools come out sharp and looking much better. It does help to look up some videos online and see how other people sharpen with it. That helped a lot when I was learning to use this. So if you're unsure if this system will work for you, do a search of some videos of it in use and it explains a lot.

Great system for the price point

Great sharpening system for the price point! I was told to only get the poplar and more expensive system to sharpen my lathe tools. This functions very similarly and for just a hobbyist turner is great! Not a single complaint! I haven’t used all the functions (tool rest) as I don’t have a need for it just yet, but do like the multi angle grinding system, the platform, and the miter sliding system very much. Easy to set up on my slow speed grinder and can make consistent grinds!

This is a well built system, but the instructions are not very clear or helpful. I would give it 5 stars if not for the instructions. It is a good value and works well once you get it set up and a little learning curve to set each phase up.

Very usable but could be better quality

The welds could be better. Parts could be more squarely aligned when they are attached. But the price is awesome for how many accessories and different types of sharpening jigs and guides you receive. Everything works great. It was very well packed. The instructions are pretty good but could use more instruction on how to achieve the various types of grinds. The metal quality is pretty good. Love the built in two inch and one point five inch guide blocks. The clamping alignment for the sliding bars could be improved with higher quality alignment. If the welds and metal alignment on the welding had been better it would have been given five stars.

Good guide to help sharpen lathe tools.

Great sharpening guide for the price. Instructions were easy to follow and setup was pretty easy. Changing the holders from one wheel to another is very quick and easy to swap. Build quality is very robust. Very satisfied with the rubber used on the locking handles. The spindle tool holder only has 3 detents to set the angle. Would be a touch more convenient with 5 settings. Using the guides feel solid and my sharpening results show it.

Makes getting a razor edge on my lathe tools easy!

Why didn't I buy one of these sooner?!? Item came in a large box, packed well for shipping, with no damage. I make a lot of things on my lathe, and spend a fair amount on replacement blades for my lathe tools. Now, thanks to the Pro Grind System, I can sharpen my own tools and save a bunch of money! Not going to lie here... Even with the "easy to follow" instructions it took me a while to figure out how to use this sharpener. There are a lot of pieces that go together depending on what/how you are trying to sharpen. But, once I found a tutorial and watched it, things became much simpler. This really is a very solidly built system. When sharpening my lathe tools the "micro bevel block" screws down onto my tool and holds it firm and steady to allow for precise sharpening. Since setting up the system onto my grinder I have put nearly razor sharp edges on all my lathe tools and chisels. Once assembled onto your 6"-8" grinder, the sharpening system is fairly easy to use, and has several attachments for all your tools sharpening needs. Length adjustment variation

When you tighten the long bar wth the levers, it move about 1/8 inch and changes the bevel angle you are aiming for. I need to use a small locking plier against the frame to stop this movement. I don’t know it this is typical for this type of jig or just the design.

Fit well with solid construction

There are a lot of pieces to this thing, but after you get it setup, it works really well. Very solid construction. Fit onto my Ryobi grinder with no issues. I would recommend for people who need extra support with fine tuning their tools.

Can be adapted for Rikon or Tormek sharpening stone

It says it’s for 6-8” grinding wheels, but I needed one of these sharpening systems for bowl gouges and didn’t want to spend two bills on something larger. Results speak for themselves (sorry for blurry photos). You may need to set something in the handle rest to lift your tools up a bit higher to account for the larger sharpening stone and water reservoir. You’ll have to find a way to mount the actual bracket UNDER your wheel as well (see photo for my quick solution). I’m satisfied with the results and I paid a fraction of the cost of the higher-end name brands to get the same utility. My bowl gouges cut cleaner than ever and some are so sharp that you won’t even notice you’ve cut yourself until you start bleeding. As far as ease of use, it’s pretty simple to set up and the included instructions will tell you all you need to know to get started. Would recommend if you want razor-sharp gouges without breaking the bank.
